Ok, now we agree.

I am sure squeezeboxes software can be really improved and be
successful if only they change the way it is developped.

1/ Concentrate on ease of use for non tech people, fix those
unbelievable and unreliable mandatory scans (probably the main cause of
end users problems, and non existing in almost every competitor
software). 

2/ Forget about those funny geek features or platforms only interesting
for a few nerds (at least until point 1/ is achieved ...)
