Update - unfortunately the 3rd party plug-in does not work as well as I first assumed. Having used it for a couple of days, it can on average play approx 5 minutes before it stops playback...
Conclusion - If your intention is to play music from a USB hard drive - the touch works alright. Also the touch as well as the radio works fine for internet radio if you can live with the occasional re-boot of the players.
