Simply copying files will not work. From 7.7.2 to 7.8 what is going wrong.
You might need to replace or rename the main script. I don't know what Synology is doing. But check the startup script in /etc/init.d for the actual file LMS is running. That file is either a copy of slimserver.pl or a link to it. You might need to fix that as well.
