Using a speaker kit from Parts Express I made these bookshelf speakers with a Raspberry Pi and Hifiberry amp inside. It's a very clean setup, connect the other speaker, data if you choose, power and you're good to go. Custom speakers playing whatever you want and controlling it all with a smartphone has coolness factor that you just can't get from something bought off the shelf.
