I think the larger issue with old, "real" Squeezeboxes is they don't
support WPA2-AES encryption, only WPA2-TKIP which is considered not
secure any more.

I've had good luck connecting old Squeezeboxes (Classic, Boom) to a
WPA2-AES mesh WiFi network (WiFi 5, -not- WiFi 6) with 'Vonets
VAR11N-300 adapters' (http://www.vonets.com/ProductViews.asp?D_ID=17).
