In my case, 'sit in a corner' is just that - on top of an 8' bookcase where the better half doesn't see it, with a long enough network cable that I can get it down and work on it if I have to (no other PC available on a consistent basis to access it via the network) - therefore 'portability' is necessary. But since it needs such basic functionality, it shouldn't cost a lot, if only I could find somebody who wants to get rid of an old laptop, and doesn't know how much they can get on ebay!
