For the investment you're making, you could hire Perl programmers to
strip down the SlimServer code to its bare essentials.  For that
matter, you could hire someone to write code for streaming music to a
Squeezebox in any language you wish - search this forum for "CLI"
(command-line interface).  Hobbyists and enthusiasts are doing this on
their own, so it should be fairly easy for a professional programmer to
come up with something.

The fact remains, -something- has to generate packets for the
Squeezebox, and that something is a server.  If you don't want to use a
server, the Squeezebox is not for you.
