If I understand correctly (always doubtful) the only benefit of the mp3tunes service is it allows you to listen to your music (in compressed format) if your home music server is inaccessible (via the Internet or locally).
Of if you're invited to a friend's party and want to bring your collection without shutting down your homeserver. Or share your slimserver with friends and relatives without worrying about your bandwidth at home.
Another benefit for lossless users is offsite backup I guess.
