I have also found FWD and RWD to be fairly hit-and-miss with FLAC. But I never use it these days - I use the SongScanner plug-in instead, which does seem to be reliable, and (at least for me) has a more appropriate method of seeking within tracks. rbl: if you've not tried SongScanner yet, it's worth a look.
