Yes, I think a 4,5" screen is on the border of being too small to make it useful - the sole reason the replace the original remote for me is to be able to browse cover art. Since the resolution of the Sony Vaio UX however is a very decent 1024*600 it depends on your eye-sight.
12" 1024*768 is Great (for this usage), 10.4" 800*600 is Very Good, I believe the 7" 800*600 (as the coming Arhos I reported on above) is the minimum for being rated "Good" by me, the Nokia 770/800 4.1" 800*480 the limit for being "Usable" (meaning as good as the included remote). The current Archos 604 Wi-Fi with 4,3" 480*272 is too small for me to use it instead of the original remote.
