There were some posts in the past month or two about the same problem, ie, appallingly slow scanning with Windows on a network drive. I can't remember if it was scanning a NAS or just a drive on another computer. I did a quick search for the thread and couldn't find it. You might try a more in-depth search, or check bugzilla to see if a bug has been filed.
