Hello again! Some progress in my troubleshooting...
I tried the 'factory reset' (add button on remote). It did successfully execute a factory reset. Afterwards I had to choose region, wireless network, enter wpa password etcetera. I have a rather long wpa password, and I experienced no problem at all entering it! The remote control works as a charm as long as I'm not in 'SlimServer-play-mode'. I think that clearly points my problem to some sort of software error.
