Go try and find any specs on the DAC in that card. 99% of them are cheapo garbage.
The only one I know of that even talks about the dac inside their card is the top if the line Creative X-fi, and that costs as much as a squeezebox. I get your point about the noise in the lab, but any sound card that works as well or better than the Squeezbox for listening to audio is going to cost as much or more.
