It's the lawers justifying their retainer fees :) Don't worry, SlimServer (now SqueezeCenter) is still open source. The new Jive platform is also completely open source. In fact, as the current Beta Jive hardware is based round a linus kernel, the whole platform is open source. As Ceejay said, the only part that remains closed in the SqueezeBox and transporter firmwares.
