The bit that looks to be missing from the winlirc (having only looked at
the how to use winlirc page) is the ability to listen for commands over
the network. 

I think the cool thing about the ethernet to IR bridge is that since
the Duet remote is on the network you can conceivably get commands to
the ethernet/IR bridge from anywhere on your LAN and the bridge can
live anywhere you have LAN cabling or wifi/ethernet bridge. 

A bit pricey, perhaps, especially considering exchange rates. But I
found that from just a few minutes of searching and it's entirely
possible there are others.
