My dinosaur PC is currently in its fifth hour doing a scan of a local USB drive. I know much of this discussion concerns NAS drives, but hopefully this is appropriate here.
Otherwise, I'll open up a new thread and whine some more... My computer crashed last week so I have had to reinstall everything and I have just installed SC for the first time. I was running SS previously, though the scammer has always been a resource hog. My poor CPU is maxed out at 100% usage, and my firewall,Zonealarm, gives the appearance that scanning the local drive somehow involves the internet. IT SHOULD NOT NEED TO IMHO. I'm much less in the know about programming than many of you, but I caught the reference about firewalls slowing the IO rate way down, but this is simply assinine. Yes, I'm still using a 2001 Gateway desktop, with some dead standard kind of RAM that has been crazy expensive to upgrade (another rant) BUT, really people, examining a file structure is a simple basic operation, not some resource hog PC Game for which one would need some $3K Alienware invincible box. What gives? What possible reason could make this so slow and yes I believe poorly implemented. In more positive news, the scan is up to 20755 of 22273 so the end is surely in sight. Thank God. I still have more programs to download and reinstall and this process seems to slow up my superfast BB access as well, if only bc with the CPU so occupied the browser can barely get a word in edgewise. -- Sona ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sona's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10815 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33041 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
