To be fair, Amazon offers this via their Xen virtual servers (aka EC2) which uses S3 as a backend. They don't offer a FreeBSD image yet, but when it comes out, I'll do a detailed cost analysis to see if it is worth switching. (No reason to wait for a BSD image, the Linux ones will do just fine, I'm just being picky.) I haven't done a serious cost analysis yet since I only pay a few bucks per month to rsync.net. It may not be worth switching because rsync.net "Just Works", and setting up a proper EC2 client will take some tweaking. > If I use a particular S3 client, I don't have a lot of confidence > (yet) that it'll be readable by any other S3 client. That was a year ago, so things may have changed since then, but I think its better to stick with standard protocols as well.
