I have a similar setup and use Big Brother Professional Edition. I went to the Commercial version just for a bit more support and ease of installation. Also I got tired of "Rolling my own" There is a Free version. Go to bb4.com to see what it can do. I use it to monitor my Web server and my backups. You can write your own scripts to monitor what you want. It also has a Windows Client and I have that running on Server 2003 and server 2008. There are a boatload of add ins for it at their contribution site.
>>> Atom Powers <[email protected]> 03/04/09 5:52 PM >>> I have a relatively small shop, about 30 servers in three locations, and I need help finding a service monitor that can notify me when something is amis, or about to go badly. Specifically I am looking for a product that can send alerts when a service fails a check and keep metrics for all the servers that it monitors. I've tried several products, and none really do what I want. (I prefer OpenSource, but it's not a requirement. Running on *BSD/Linux *is*.) Nagios is good for alerting, but it's doesn't keep metrics. Cacti is good at keeping metrics, but it won't alert me if something is wrong. ZenOss does both, but I have found it difficult to manage and buggy, and the commercial version is expensive. Can you recommend or mention some other products that you have used or heard about? -- Perfection is just a word I use occasionally with mustard. --Atom Powers-- _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
