Is it proprietary RHEL code or is it proprietary 3rd party
code available to RHEL?
Red Hat has been very good about releasing software code. I
believe Red Hat usually uses the GPL.
It's not strictly GPL. There are over 90 different licenses in the RHEl distro.
It's about 60% GPL.
Yes, I wasn't trying to imply that everthing in RHEL is GPL :). The
licensing on projects stays that given by upstream. I'm amazed that there
are 90 licenses.
I specifically meant projects that Red Hat has created.
At one point, many years ago, Red Hat had some proprietary projects. I
think it has since changed to a policy of releasing everything it creates
as free software and preferring the GPL.
Red Hat does not have control over what licensing Dell uses, but I'm sure
that Red Hat encourages Dell to also release projects as free software.
I do not work for Red Hat. I do know a few people who do. I also know one
of the CentOS founders. I do use a RHEL book and CentOS when I teach
sysadmin at the college. My few shares of Red Hat stock have recently gone
up. I think that covers the disclaimers :).
