Yes folks, we need to be careful about spreading rumors...especially
the "chicken little" variety. Indications are that Apple is not
ceasing accessibility development. The recent hiring of a new
Accessibility Engineer (which job description details I posted to the
list a while back) is one such indicator. This VO effort is a new
thing - it's free with the cost of the operating system and it is
integrated with the OS at a low level. We need the tools we need
today (and we all have our own ideas about what the tools should do
and how they should do it) but we need to allow some time for this
effort to move along at a healthy pace. As the effort continues (and
Apple continues to hire people to do this work) there is some choice
available to the customer - two other platforms with their own
accessibility solutions. I suspect that the Apple approach is going
to be an attractive option to many even now, with the new stuff
"barely out of the boxes".

open position right now for an accessibility programmer.

I was told today from a rather reliable source that Apple has cut
back on continued development of VO. I mention this here because
it does concern me. And maybe we all need to contact apple.
It's not that they are going to discontinue the project, but
rather feel it's 'good enough' so no further resources need be
allocated to it's development.
There still needs to be a great deal of work on both VO, and on
the Zoom feature. The tracking of Zoom, sucks. It just doesn't
work much of the time, like as I type this message.
maybe Apple should release the code as Open Source...
