I'm doing this on a Mac but it really wouldn't matter I have it down
to two steps now using HandBreak to extract the Movie to an MP4 file
and AC3 to pull the audio out by setting various bitrates I have the
audio down to less than 30 megabytes for a full length film.
One approach might be to make these into DAISY digital talking books
so as to provide some protection to the producers of films.

On my Windows machine I just strip the audio out of our DVD's and
convert them to MP3. It works great and I save allot of HD space. I
think it would work. It doesn't take much effort and it would be a
plus. If you got some contacts I would be willing to venture with
you. By the way are you listers on this list e-mailing using your
Mac. I am still using Windows because I haven't had time to turn my
Mac on. I just brought a HTC PC Phone from Verizon using MS Pocket
and it has taken all my time. If you guys are wanting accessible
phones Mobile Speaks is a viable solution. Sorry for the rat hole.

Subject: Audio only movies
Here is an idea, it's just an idea and I don't know if the Movie
industry would ever permit it. Having worked out the details of
extracting only the audio form a DVD how about an audio movie
service for the blind that would provide only the sound tracks of
movies?
My wife, who is blind, and I go to movies all the time. I seldom
provide any kind of description to her, she finds that annoying.
So what do you folk think would audio only movies be of use? Would
people want them?
They could be encoded as MP3 files so they would be carried onto
digital players. Could we have something like Bookshare for movies
soundtracks in which you would have to prove you were a patron of
the library service to use it? Could we put the soundtracks into
DAISY format?
Any comments out there?
