Well all i know is that it's a FTP server accessed over the net. no idea if it's apple or other when i access with my windows machine it's not lightning speed but can usually find what i need to download in around a minute. when logging on to the same when using the Mac it gives me folders then when i vavigate to the contents it seems to lock up. i am in column mode if that makes a differens.

hope this helps

mny thanks

Keith: OK I have managed to open a server by using apps key plus K the only thing is that it's painfully slow to navigate even saying busy for long periods of time any ideas. oh i am using leopard if that helps any.
Tim: What server have you accessed? Is it within your same subnet? Is it a Mac server or Windows? If Windows, did you connect using smb? These should help a little to narrow down the issue.
