KB: when i access with my windows machine it's not lightning speed but can usually find what i need to download in around a minute. when logging on to the same when using the Mac it gives me folders then when i vavigate to the contents it seems to lock up. i am in column mode if that makes a differens.

tK: Depending on the number of items in any given folder, you're Mac can appear to freeze up although it really hasn't. It's just taking a little time to determine what items are in the folder and the various permissions. column mode is usually OK but you may wish to try it with Icon mode. I've heard some mention that it works better in that mode.
