Hello Scott,
I have been usig a Macbook pro for a few weeks now. I had to install
Windows XP on it with bootcamp, having assigned to it a small portion
of the hard drive. I am hoping to be moving over to Mac exclusively as
soon as I am able to accomplish on it what I need to do. Firstly, I'm
still learnig the various shortcut keys in Mac and its potential, and
while it is happening, I need to use Windows in oder to continue to do
things professionally as well as for pleasure. For instance,
navigating web pages in both secure and public domains takees time to
master in order to have the speed and efficiency I have under Windows
with Jaws. Secondly, there are still some functionalities which Mac
does not support yet like the foreign languages both in speech and in
braille which I have to use as well as a satisfactory word processing
and excel package which I could use with confidence. I'm testing Nisus
Writer pro at the moment but I haven't been able to work out how to
work in tables as voiceover does not announce when it hits a table or
has not got a way of finding out what colum or row you are in or what
its heading is etc. You can see that at present my needs are mostly
text and language based whilst many on the list are experts in the
multimedia. I can, however, see that I would want to do this as well
once my immediate and most important needs are satisfied.
I have e-mailed Apple with some of the issues I have mentioned here in
the hope that future releases of Mac OS will go some way towards
improvements.
Having said all this, I love my Mac. I think the voice quality is
superior to any other synthetic speech I have experienced. The
computer is also so quiet which is one of the problems I have always
experienced with PCs and windows laptops. I have squandered a lot of
money, trying to find a quiet laptop with a limited success up until
now. My Macbook just whispers in the background and doesn't interfere
with my thought processes.
With best wishes to you all

Hi.
I'm wondering how many people are using the mac exclusively and
don't use windows at all? For those of you who use windows, do you
have a separate windows machine or have you installed the operating
system on a mac?
