OK Anne and Tim, not forgetting everyone else on the list. thank you both very much for your support and advice. i am pleased to report that all's well with highlighting now and i am able to select what ever i need to. thanks again. just another quick question, hopefully, to the rest of the group also. is there a preferred setup for mail? reason for asking is that at one time i had it set up so that i could browse through messages and then just press enter to read the text but now i have to tab around to find it on each message. it's a bit slow is there a quicker way to read mail?

thanks again

Keith

OK now what i am trying to do is open my home folder then go to download folder. i open this, ow here's where things go wrong. i now have about 12 folders in this folder these are the folders i wish to select. i am now on the first folder and it says that it's highlighted, all's well up to now, so i turn off curser tracking as directed. i now interact with the list of folders
A.R. You need to interact with the list of folders before turning cursor tracking off. You should only start highlighting once you are interacting with the list.

K.B. i arrow down to say the third folder
A.r. You need to use VO-Down arrow not the arrow key alone. Since you have turned cursor tracking off, using the arrow key alone moves the highlighting down and leaves the VO cursor where you started. This is why you only have two folders highlighted; the one last highlighted by the arrow key and the one you keep highlighting by pressing VO-Cmd-Spacebar, i.e. the one you started with.

I hope this makes sense.

Cheers,

Anne
