It's kind of surprising and rather irksome how often this fixes things. Old school web design was to sniff for browsers and block "bad" ones. Problem was new browser and newer versions of browsers often got blocked for no good reason. This is generally frown upon in moder web design because it's not a "future proof" technique. Zeldman wrote a book called Designing with Web Standards which covers this, other gaffes by companies and web developers who haven't kept up and generally how to do good modern semantic standards based web pages. Hi I think there is something in the archives about revealing the "Debug" menu. I think within this menu is an option to make websites think that Safari is infact another browser incl. IE

Hope this helps

that is not what is happening here and that there is a fix.

Subject: Voiceover and internet banking

Dear Listers,

I am in a bit of a quandary over using my internet banking with
voiceover. I can do anything without a hitch up until let's say the
final moment when I have moved money around and want to confirm it. I
get a screen to do with certificates and an icon which says lock. I
cannot go beyond that screen. I've tried to press ok on it, I have
closed it which only threw me out of the secure site and I had to
start it again. I just haven't got a clue what to do once this
wretched screen appears. I'm sure it is a security device but I get no
isntructions on the screen as to how to proceed. I've tried reloading
the page but without success. Have you got any ideas/experiences/tips?

With best wishes

Simon
