Well, I went right from dos 6.2 to windows 98, and enter has always
performed the action of a double click on files.
Call me chirlish, but I don't want to get used to this. It's
awcward, and it's rong. The most performed actions go to the most
convenient keys. And if you don't like keybord lay outs under
windows, you just change them. Especially screen reader keybord
layouts. If vo has a command for open, why can't I change it from vo
down arrow or whatever stupid thing it is to the enter key? Using
enter as the rename key is a waste and for some one migrating from
windows to mac it could potencially cause a serious problem..

I don't remember it being used in windows.95. I've onlhy come across this
on the Mac.

If I remember right, this was also used in Win 95 as well.
The only reason peeps were able to press the enter key to open
files and shortcuts etc. was because JFW or WinEyes made it work that
way.
