encryption does the time capsule / Airport Extreme support? I'm
assuming it's some flavor of wpa at this point, or has it changed
since I last purchased a router / access point, last year?

No, you're talking about the software supported by the router, and
you're right about that, but in a sense there is protection with
any router as just oPposed to a modem because of NAT.
