Adium works wonderfully. :)
Unfortunately I don't remember where I got it from. but if you
download the latest one, you can set it up, with some work. to read
messages automatically--you can even set up individual voices for each
contact--now *that* is fun! And you can have different sound effects--
I have cats--to let you know when someone logs in, out, idles, or
whatever.
