John, there's a few ways to do this. If the section you're trying to select is large, try the following.
#1 move to the beginning of the selection.

#2 hit p to drop a marker at the play head.

#3 Play to the end of what you want to select.

#4 cmd-y to move the insertion pointer to the play head.

#5 cmd-left arrow to select back to the previous marker -- this should be the one you just created with p in the above step. #6 I usually hit e to hear a preview of what it's going to sound like after you delete -- this is obviously optional.

#7 hit delete.

#8 I press shft-cmd-y to bring the play head back to the insertion pointer -- the insertion pointer is where it should be, but often I find the play head gets goofed up because of the deletion.

Now, if you're trying to edit something small, do the following:

#1 find the beginning of what you want to edit.

#2 cmd-y to move the insertion pointer to the play head -- I wish the play head and insertion pointer could be kept in sync, but that's just not the way it is.

#3 Press shft-right arrow to start selecting. Depending on how your zoom is set, you may have to, and probably will have to press shft- right a number of times. I usually set my zoom low which means I can select very tiny blips, but which means I forever have to hold shft- right arrow.

#4 If your selection is a bit off, press the a key to start extending it to the left, the s key to move the left hand or beginning a bit to the right, the d key to move the right hand or end selection back a bit, or the f to move the end selection out by a bit. This seems confusing when reading it, but it's not... a brings beginning further to the left. S brings beginning further right... D moves end left... F moves end right... Now, this moves in very tiny increments, so it's really for fine tuning.

#5 I use e to preview before deleting, but if you're sure of yourself, or are just tired after all those key presses, just hit delete and hope for the best.

One more note, there is an item in one of the menus, I'm not sure exactly which one now that says snap to crossing. You can do this after making your selection to make the edit a bit more clean i.e. to not have a small pop where your edit is if you've not selected to the next wave crossing.

I hope all this helps, but if I should clarify further, just let me know.

Steve

Hey all. My latest podcast may have some things in it that shoudn't have been published, and I am considering doing some editing. I've also been asked to edit the file as someone wanted to hear just the sermon. How can I select portions of sound in Amadeus? What I need to do is trim the audio around a certain point. I also need to figure out how to select souond to put effects on it, in case I need to censor anything. Thanks for the help.
