Well our programmer friend gave me some hope! He said yes, he does have friends who work at the facility. And he seems intersted too in this idea of getting some sort of tour + discussion going.

So hopefully this idea could be a reality one of these months. October maybe? Not sure how close to Cupertino people interested in a tour might live and have to travel.

I can check on that. Well anyone else can too. Great idea. Felix says "Yes, they might." Worth asking about. We have a programmer friend. I'm going to ask him too if he has any friends/contacts at Apple.

I live in a dinky little apartment! But something could be arranged
somehow!

I did a map directions search from our place to the facility. It is just over 71 miles, and 1 hour 25 minutes travel time driving, one way. Because
of driving through the city.

So I'm not sure we're the most convenient of locations. We do have friends who live closer to Cupertino who might be willing to allow us to use their
house as a base. We'd have to do some checking.

and can we use your house as a base?

Felix says, arrange a tour of the facility. For a bunch of blind
people. And then ask if (we) can sit down and talk to the research/
development team leader to discuss ideas for better accessibility.

We live about 70 miles north of Cupertino.

Just brainstorming.

Sure. Cupertino, here I come. LOL. :) I have to go up to the bay area
in October, so how about it? :)
I wish there was a way we could all camp out, but somehow I doubt it
would be effective.

speaking of IPods, why can't they put some form of speech like voiceover into IPods. I mean come on, if it could be done with Rockbox, then, surely Apple could do it with their own product.

Why should it be our! burden.

Hi CB, there are two ways this could be done. Apple could
engineer an ui
and back it with vo or a 3rd party could develop an app that
talks. there
is a hardware device for the IPod called ITel I think that
achieves at least
part of this for the IPod.

So out of curiosity, how would you make an iPhone accessible?
Obviously
it needs a speech engine, but how do you interact? There is no
tactile
UI. I think it's a lot like a touch screen kiosk and some have
simple
instructions saying to touch the top left for yes or top right
for no.
That kind of interaction model doesn't scale very well for
complex
interaction like typing an email . Not making excuses for Apple
but this
seems like a tough nut to crack.
