OK, I'm still very much the beginner here, so what I'm about to suggest may be more easily accomplished. I never seem to get Orca correctly started using the boot menu, so I just hit enter and let the live CD boot normally. After I hear the welcome jungle sound an the CD spins down, I hit ctrl-f2 which will bring up a run prompt... or whatever it's called in Linux. I then type orca and hit return... Within a few seconds, Orca starts speaking. This assumes I'm actually booting off the CD, I still can't get it working in a virtual machine.
