But how can you interact with/edit the material in each cell? This
didn't seem possible in the way I would have expected (i.e. interact
with the cell, as in tables).

I have just downloaded the newest beta of Open Office. The
spreadsheet is now accessible. Voiceover reads what cell you
are in. This is totally awesome. Now we can do spreadsheets on
the Mac.
When you open the Open Office application and look in the file
menu, you'll see all the applications have shortcut keys like
command t for text edit.
Again, I'm sorry if this has been posted on this list before. My
Mac was send to Apple to be repaired for some weeks ago then
the new beta came out, so i didn't checked my mail very often.
