Everything in the OS X terminal is read properly if you interact with
the terminal.
At the suggestion of another list member I have taken to using OpenSSH
for Windows running through Fusion. You can shell into your Mac from
an OS in Fusion by using your machine's IP address. Note, the IP
address of your Mac in OSX is different from the IP address assigned
to your virtual machine.
