Hello Tiffanitsa and all:
No need to feel like an idiot. that is what the list is for ... people
asking questions to which they think they should know the answers to
people who thought they should know the answers already themselves
(smile). what do you get ... people trading answers to questions no
one really knew the answers to when they first started (smile).
If you go to your applications folder you will find a utilities
folder. open that and look for disk utilities. when you find that open
it and use your VO keys + your right arrow until you here a table.
when you come across it voiceover should say something like "select a
disk table." interact with it and you should here the name of your
computer ... I have know idea what your computer is called though the
first thing you should here is a number followed by the word
"gigabytes." that number should be close to the actual memory on your
computer.
Have you lost me yet (smile). if all of that is making sense, stop
interacting with the table and use your VO + right arrow keys to move
along again. you should hear something like, "first aid selected tab 1
of 5." if you hear that you are in great shape. if you hear "first aid
tab 1 of 5," but not the selected ... select it. once the first aid
tab is selected, use VO keys + right arrow again until you come to the
verify permissions button. use the VO keys + spacebar to click on it
and wait.
tra la la la la la la
Ok, how do you know what is going on? once in a while use the VO + W
keys. you should hear voiceover say something like "stop verifying
permissions." that is good because that means things are running. use
VO + W once in a while until you hear voiceover say "verify disk
permissions button. then that task is complete.
BUT WAIT!!!! THERE IS MORE ... JUST A LITTLE MORE.
Now you want to repair disk permissions. that will be a snap if you
have gotten to this point (grin). use the VO + right arrow keys to
move to the repair disk permissions button. use VO + spacebar to click
on it and vooalah. the same thing will happen again. check the
progress by using VO + W to see how progress is going. when the button
returns to "repair disk permissions button," you are done ... truly
done (smile). close the window and all should be right with the world.
If this made sense to you I am glad. it will be because of your
powerful comprehension skills and nothing to do with my ability to
explain (smile). what do you expect from someone who cannot even spell
vooalah correctly (smile).
Good luck and if you need any additional help, do not hesitate to
write back.

Okay, now I feel like an idiot. What is permission repair and how
do I run it?

I'd get the latest update and run permission repair. this might be
related to something else entirely.

I donno why, but lately, Ive been having some very annoying problems
with voiceover. the speech will stop and then restart itself, even
saying "Voiceover On". Then, when I close the lid of the machine and
open it again, it'll either get really slow or really fast. I didn't
do anything major and don't have the latest update. Could it be a
virus or is it some quirk in the machine?
Thanks,
Tiffanitsa
Take good care and I wish you enough.
