strange problem with Finder

Hello.  For about the last week or so, I've had a strange problem with  
Finder.  Whenever I close a finder window, Finder wants to bring up a  
search box.  Let's say I open a folder called /users/rmann/mp3.  After  
I'm done with that folder I hit command+w to close the window.   
Instead of just closing the window, A search box appears that says  
something like, searching this mac.  Before about a week or so, Finder  
would just close the window like I expect. What can I do to fix this?   
This is a little anoying.
