Hey y'all

I just had an idea. We could have a GnuPG-based plugin to provide digital signatures.

As you know, OOo 2.0 will bring digital signatures, but it is the kind that depends on a certification authority. Not to mention that the certificates either cost money or are short lived (or both). I prefer the GnuPG kind, where anyone can make their own public key and signatures.

certificates.services.openoffice.org perhaps?

Maybe some kind of centralised OOo certification co-ordination authority even. :)

We could make a plugin for GPG signatures. It need not provide all the functionality of GPG. Only provide enough to make and manage digital signatures. If we did that, it could be made just as simple, or simpler, than the certification-based signatures. So we'd make digital signatures available to a wider audience.

Just an idea. What do you think?

An interesting idea, definitely worth discussing.

:)
