Yes, it is a little rude that someone would give it you for free and

Give it freely as it was intended to be, it's a great platform for
those of us that just want to see if there are like minded people out
there and beleive that the changes we make are good ones.
Just give it stop quibbling just give it
If what you are giving are CDROMs, it would be very darn expensive to
give them out for free. If they come with a paper manual, you'd go
bankrupt very quickly.
Additionally, if you can make a profit, maybe you could afford to spend
less time at work and more time promotting OpenOffice.org.
It's certainly true that a lot of people just want to take advantage of
OOo and scam people. And I get infuriated at those. But we have to
recognize that there /are/ legitimate reasons to sell OOo.
Oh, here's another example. Ian went to a conference a month ago. The
largest education conference in the world, in Los Angeles. These are
people who had never heard of OOo. Ian figured that if he gave out the
CDs for free, a lot of people would grab it just because it's free and
then just throw them on the garbage bin. This would be expensive, and it
wouldn't give us an indication of how much real interest there was. So
instead he sold the CDs for $5 and if you didn't want to buy it, he'd
give you the URL where you can download it for free. This way he was
able to better estimate the level of interest, and the profit from the
CDs helps (a little) to compensate for the expense of going to the
conference to promote OOo.
Would you say that Ian was rude for not giving it for free?
Or would you say that he did an inmense favour to OOo?
Cheers,
Daniel.
