I was just thinking, wouldn't it be great if each tool of openoffice (writer, impress, math, draw) are available individually as an extension of firefox and available as one of the tabs. Its like you open the writer tab, impress tab, draw tab etc. When the user clicks on the tab, all the toolbars change to match the tab selected.

While I understand that:

1) OOo is open source and people can do what they want with it
2) People are requesting this feature
3) Some people have already started working on it
4) Google have also announced an alternative way of delivering OOo via a browser

I really must question the value of something like this. Surely people's time would be better spent improving the actual product, rather than trying to embed it into their browser, their mail client, their IPod, their stereo and their cat. Fragmentation and duplication is not how a software project gains market share - it's how people spend endless hours for no real benefit.

As I've already said, I understand that people are free to implement whatever they please, scratch their itch, etc. However with the number of bugs that I've posted being marked "OOo Later - sorry, not enough developers to fix this in the upcoming 2.0 release ... we'll try to do something about it in 2.1 or later", or worse yet, the bug simply sitting there without so much as an acknowledgement that someone has looked at it ... you really have to wonder if what OOo needs is to be bolted onto the side of Firefox.

Call me crazy, but when I want to surf the web, I open Firefox. When I want to open a spreadsheet, I open oocalc2. I don't want to write emails from OpenOffice - I use Thunderbird for that. I don't compose music in The Gimp - I use Ardour for that. See the sense in this approach?
