I understood that. Yours suggestion works "as is" only if you don't need text both to be in the other language AND use a different custom character style. However, since I already use custom character styles, and you can't have multiple character styles for the same text, I need to make two copies of each of my custom character styles, one for each language.
At any rate, all this is a workaround/hack. In the age of Unicode, applications like OpenOffice.org should be able to handle mixed language documents transparently, with minimal user intervention and without the need to mix content and presentation like this style hack does.
Even more .... you can make your character style language X another color for on the screen, if you like
Why would I want to do that? I know which text is in each language (Hebrew doesn't use a latin alphabet, so it is easy), the issue is letting OOo know... :-) What did I miss here?
Before printing only have to change the color of the style, few clicks, ...
My documents are electronic only- they never get printed (I don't even own a printer. Never found a use for one).
