Hi Chad,
I am sure that we could find some hosting for it. I mean, it's not like we
are talking about a ton of traffic here. There wouldn't need to be many
images - if any at all - and they could still be hosted on the Collabnet
servers. You'd just need... what, php, mysql, html, cgi?
Plus some 24x7 availability, or something very close to that. You
wouldn't want a issue submission gateway which doesn't work half of the
time.
What is the issue
(no pun intended) that is keeping us from being able to do this on
Collabnet?
AFAIK, the infrastructure simply doesn't allow for active content.
That's why all those *.services.openoffice.org which use active
server-side content run on different servers.
Maybe it's just me - but I think it would be better to get a bunch of junk
entries (duplicates, spam, incomplete issues, idiots who don't know how to
run spell check and calling it a bug, etc.) and get some good feedback with
it than not getting any feedback at all.
You never had to wade through those zillions of bugs where a gut feeling
tells you they might describe some important-to-fix problem, but you
can't figure out which one, had you? (no offense intended)
I'm sure that all the brave QA volunteers over there at [EMAIL PROTECTED] will
certainly tell you it *does* matter how many of those junk issues you
actually have to deal with.
Ciao
Frank
Seems to me that reviewing posts to this proposed site could be done by
non-Sun volunteers and not detract from the available time of Sun
developers. When an issue is verified it could then be transferred to
issuezilla for action. Most of these "issues" would probably be solved
with a little advice. I have noticed that most of the things that OOo
is lacking, aren't really lacking, just not where or called what
newbies expect them, or they require a different method than M$ Office.
