This is actually the best way to start learning and using HTML. It really helps when you find problems when your software such as Frontpage makes a mess of the code and it doesn't display properly. It also helps you view and trace through the source code for other pages.

There are some text editors that will even colour the markup language for you. I use emacs myself.
