To whom it may concern:

I've had two different people in the last couple of months ask me where
they can get MS Office for free and I've seen it here a time or two
also. I *think* I might know where those questions come from, or at
least one place.

I just had an auto update for JAVA on the other computer: On the
opening update page was a statement about (paraphrased, unfortunately
the screen went away and I can't seem to get it back), that Open Office
was a replacement for "... Microsoft Office for Free".
It's nothing but a grammar issue and I suspect OO.o gets a lot of
mileage from the ad, but ... that IS what it says! It MEANS get
something, for MS Office, for free, not that MS Office is free. But ...
it explains the tie-ins about where both people who have asked me lately
got the idea MS could be gotten for free. One said they were updating
their javascript, the other said their java, and finally today I
happened to read the screen before allowing the update. I don't see it
worded that way anywhere else on the site that I could find; apparently
it's only in the latest auto update offer.

Perhaps someone should flag SUN and have them reword that ad. I know if
I did it I'd just be written off as some dummy but there are names here
who could at least get the information read and understood.

Kind of drives home "what's in a name", eh?  Just trying to help;
nothing else. The "other machine is my wife's and she skips any and all
download offers, so I don't know how long it's been there. Seems like
this machine got updated quite awhile ago but it's used constantly where
hers is not.

Sincerely,

Twayne
