I was wondering if there had been any research on the area of
conceptualization of code structures especially control structure like

scientific input into the debate.

I am not aware of any empirical studies on this topic. Most articles
seems to date back to the structured programming debate, and are about
issues such as recursion versus iteration, or exiting from the middle of
loop.

Although I am in the process of investigating the roles of loops (like
Sajaniemi's roles of variables), I have not looked into this issue
either, but I might keep it in the back of my head next time I have to
analyse more source code.
