Yes, I did change my password, but only after I could be connected through a
page provided by the tech support people, hopefully in an environment where my
password change could not itself be read by whatever the evildoers might have
set up on my PC.

It’s indeed a bummer when this happens, for all concerned (you, and all those
who get email sent from your account). I hear you saying you see no signs of a
virus or “change”.

But you should at least change your password at att.net. It may be merely that
someone got your password (perhaps by phishing you or someone else who you may
let access the account). Changing it will keep them out, at least until somehow
they are able to phish it again. Just a thought (but a common problem I see.)

Yes, it appears so. However, a virus scan of my computer finds nothing, the
tech
support person at my e-mail provider finds no change to the standard parameters
that (according to him) would be used by hackers to cause other problems, and
the few people who had clicked the link before I could get the warning message
out report that it would not open. Unfortunately he had no clue as to how it
got
hacked.
