Actually, no plotting is started at all. It just fails.

I see no plplot_octave.so file at all. I only find this:
/usr/lib/octave/site/oct/mipsel-openwrt-linux-gnu/plplot_octave.oct

/usr/lib/liboctave.so

I have installed these packages and their dependences (is it enough?):
octave - 3.2.4-3
octave-data - 3.2.4-3
plplot-octave - 5.9.7-3
plplot - 5.9.7-3
plplot-linuxvga - 5.9.7-3

You mean /usr/lib/libplplotd.so.10.0.0 ? I just replaced the other copies
with symbolic links. (it has no effect)
