Similar report here: linux/x86 (both intel and athlon) to mswindows
(using mingw cross compiler) all the time with distcc. Our commercial
product is compiled that way. We don't have any MSWindow installations
in-house. VMware for testing. Cross-compilers may be a pain, but are
worth it. Also use a cross to compile for our old pentiums on faster
systems, for speed's sake.
