Hi, folks. I received the below email and while it sounds interesting I do not have the cycles to pursue it. Anyone here have the motivation to follow up?
Shosholoza, Rich ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Rich Bowen <rbo...@rcbowen.com> Date: Thu, Aug 15, 2019, 11:51 Subject: Fwd: [INQUIRY]: Accessibility at ApacheCon? I received the following solicitation. I do not really understand what their angle is. They say it's no-cost, but that we'd have to provide a volunteer, or possibly a volunteer per track? Unclear. If someone wants to pick this up and pursue it, knock yourself out. I don't have the time. -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Re: [INQUIRY]: Accessibility at ApacheCon? Although live-transcriptions sound technical, the platform is pretty straightforward. When we work with different events, we take care of setting up the sessions in the back-end of our platform and onboard a person from the conference to start / stop the transcriber for each session. It takes about 15mins to onboard a person, and it's as easy as plugging a laptop into an audio board. Here's a *3min video* <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEDaRsL0-K0&feature=youtu.be> which explains more about Thisten. As well, I've included some additional info below. Happy to hop on a call to chat about everything further, if that works for you. Chat soon, Ben * * *---------------------* * * *Thisten Overview* * Thisten is an audio-to-text platform that transcribes conversations in real-time * The platform allows people to follow along with a live-feed of text on their phones, as information is being communicated to an audience * Thisten is backed by Google Creative Lab, with Seth Godin as a mentor, and Lesa Mitchell (Techstars) as an advisor *Opportunity * * 466M+ people in the world are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and they don’t have access to live events without a sign-language interpreter * * *Founding Team* * Part of successful exit (SkipTheDishes) in 2016 * Built and scaled network technology on a global scale (3-sided marketplace) * Contributed to growth achievements, such as: o $1.5B+ in annual revenue o 2,500+ employees o 20k network restaurants o 50k network couriers On Thu, Aug 15, 2019 at 10:33 AM Rich Bowen <rbo...@rcbowen.com <mailto:rbo...@rcbowen.com>> wrote: How would that work? Clearly talk transcripts would be a great benefit, but that sounds like an *enormous* amount of work.
