look at it this way - django 'stable' has not yet been released -  
patches make more sense when there is a stable version to be patched.  
At present, in a sense, everything is a patch including what the core  
devels are doing - and this will continue till stable 1.0 is released  
when, I assume, someone will be allotted solely to look after tickets  
and patches - just my two paise
