I don't use MySQL so I'm not that familiar with it. I know a lot of people have had problems getting MySQLdb to compile though. I'd try searching the django-users google group for clues, and if you're running debian, ubuntu, gentoo, etc. install it via their package management system (apt-get, emerge, etc.) rather than trying to install it from source. If you're on a mac, use darwinports... it will make your life a lot easier. Someone else may be able to help you if you post your platform details.
